2023 i4Kids Symposium Registration & Abstract Submission

The i4Kids symposium will overview current goals and achievements and feature exciting collaborative research. Participants will have the opportunity to network with potential collaborators. We encourage researchers to submit abstracts to be selected to give an oral or poster presentation. We strongly encourage participants to attend in person, though a virtual option will be available. All presenters must attend the symposium in person. The event will include a continental breakfast, lunch, and networking reception. A detailed schedule will be released closer to the symposium date.

The abstract submission is separate from the general registration form this year. If you are submitting an abstract, please complete both forms. All presenters must attend the symposium in person.

Keynote Speaker

Heather Stapleton, Ph.D.
Ronie-Richele Garcia-Johnson Distinguished Professor
Nicholas School of the Environment
Duke University

Her research focuses on human exposure to chemical additives such as flame retardants and PFASs (“forever chemicals”) broadly used in consumer products and their link to adverse health effects, particularly in children and mothers. Her research group uses high resolution mass spectrometry to analyze environmental and biological samples to measure human exposure levels and to study effects on metabolic outcomes and thyroid hormone regulation. She is currently Director of the Duke Environmental Analysis Laboratory, Deputy Director for the Duke Superfund Research Center, and formerly a Lead in the Children’s Health Discovery Institute. Dr. Stapleton was awarded the prestigious Duke University Thomas Langford Lectureship Award in 2020 and testified at the US Senate Hearing on Flame Retardant Chemicals in 2012. She was featured in the New York Times article, "The Harmful Chemicals Lurking in Your Children's Toys".

Call for Abstracts

Symposium Abstraction Submission due Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Researchers may submit abstracts to be selected for either oral presentation or poster session presentation. All abstracts should be uploaded on the submission form as a Word Document. Abstracts should not exceed 1-page. All presenters (Oral and Poster) must attend the symposium in person.

Abstracts should follow the downloadable formatting sample template at bottom of this page.

Oral Presentation:

10 minute PowerPoint presentation with 5 minutes of Q&A.

Poster Session Presentation:

Posters should be prepared to fit a maximum of 36" height x 48" width.
Easels and form board with tacks to hang your poster will be provided.
Printing is not provided.
You may set up your poster at during arrival or during lunch.
You must be at your poster to present during the poster session.
Poster 2.0 / Billboard Poster format is optional but highly encouraged. (Sample below)

FAQ

Is there a registration fee?

No. The symposium registration is free for all attendees.

Will parking be provided?

Yes, parking will be provided for those who do not have access to the North Garage located by Rangos Reseach Center. Please indicate that you will need parking when registering so we can provide your name to our parking staff.

Who should attend the i4Kids Symposium?

Physicians, scientists, trainees, advanced practice providers, administrators and funders interested in pediatric research.

Will participants be required to wear masks?

Yes, all participants are required to wear masks even if they are vaccinated.

Will a hybrid option be offered?

We highly encourage participants to attend in person to network and form new collaborations. There will be a virtual option for those who cannot attend in person.

Will the symposium be recorded?

Yes, depending on speaker's permission to record.
