Richard King Mellon Foundation donates $1.5 million to i4Kids researchers to find AFM cure!

This fall we are expected to see a spike in cases that can cause partial paralysis in children. It’s a disease that presents itself like a common cold but turns into polio-like symptoms causing paralysis. 

Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 anchor Janelle Hall spoke with one of the few families affected by acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) in the Pittsburgh area. 

Now, a big boost is coming for doctors. Sixty-five years after making a generous donation to help a Pittsburgh doctor develop the polio vaccine, the Richard King Mellon Foundation announced a $1.5 million grant to help doctors in Pittsburgh try to find a vaccine or cure for AFM.
