Biography

Dr. Catherine (Katie) Poholek received her MD and PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Scientist Training Program, where she studied the role of interleukin-21 in intestinal health and disease in the lab of Dr. Laurie Harrington. She completed her pediatrics residency at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as part of the Pediatric Scientist Development Program (Integrated Research Pathway) after which she began her fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology. She is currently working in the lab of Dr. Mandy McGeachy in the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology where her research interests include the role of T helper 17 cells in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disease, the dynamic interactions between lymph node stromal and immune cells, and the relation between inflammation and lipidomics.
